At the start of this season I was cautiously optimistic. I knew that we would have an inexperienced group of players but those same players had shown great promise in S3 and I was sure that they would rise to the challenge. 1 wasn't wrong. Once again we had a number playing for Central Crusaders at U15 and U16 levels. Craig Mason was selected to play for Caledonia U16 squad and Murray McLeod was selected for the Caledonia U17 squad - quite an achievement for a small school, such as ours.
Players who were involved throughout this season were:
Backs: A Abolins, C Mason, C Farquharson, R O'Donnell, S Carter, K Reid, G Towns, M McLeod, D Paterson, C Richardson and D Walker.
Forwards: K Loch, M Gibb, K Hayes, P Girvan, P Tyson (Capt), J Evenden, J Kerr,C Hendcrson, C- Mclnally, T Bruce, R Carmichael, L Flynn and G Houston.
Morrisons Academy: 25-15 (W) Always a tricky fixture away from home, but this was a very good win. Morrisons were a big, well-organised side, but they gave away too many penalties, and Greg Towns kicked six penalties which may have been a school record. Overall, a good start to the season.
Merchiston College: 42 - 10 (L) Merchiston are always going to be physical and totally committed and they showed up our lack of experience. Too often we were wiped out in rucks by three or four Merchiston forwards,

whilst we committed six or seven. As a result, they invariably had extra players in their back line. However the players did rally in the second half, losing only one further try and scoring two' At least we won the second half.
Madras College 21 - 7 (W) Having played Madras in a trial/training match at the very beginning of the season, we were optimistic. We played well, exercising good control amongst the forwards and using our undoubted pace out wide. We didn't allow Madras to dominate any aspect of (he game and ran out worthy winners in the end.
Glasgow High School: 22-17 (L) Despite the eventual result, this was one of our best performances of the season. Glasgow High School were 17 points up after only 20 minutes, but we re-grouped well, took the game to them, put them under considerable pressure and rarely allowed them into our half. We lost this game because, at first, we gave the opposition far too much respect and then played to our true potential and out played them in nearly all departments. A very encouraging performance.
North Berwick: 10 - 8 (L) We dominated the game totally from start to finish and yet on the two occasions when the opposition got into our half of the pitch, they scored! We had numerous opportunities to score but either took the wrong option, dropped the final pass or didn't make the scoring pass. A very disappointing result against a team that we should have beaten!
