Madras College 1st XV: 26-21 (W)
This was always going to be a difficult encounter so early in the season, and so it was to prove. We matched them up front despite a marked difference in the size of our packs. Our backs played well and were a constant threat, despite an opposition back division that looked more than useful. A tough match, but an excellent start to the season.

Kinross High School 1st XV: 24-10 (W) Scottish Schools Cup.
After the good win against Madras we went to Kinross full of confidence but, on reflection, perhaps too confident. We had suffered some injuries to the side that beat Madras, which disrupted our game plan but we did not play well. Too often we allowed a big, lumbering pack to win possession and our backs stood off their opposite numbers to an alarming degree. After half time we began to play some good attacking rugby and ran out easy winners. Thus began a spell of injuries that was to cause us problems up until the Christmas holidays.
Morrisons Academy 1st XV: 30-29 (W)
This was one of the best matches of the season. Our forwards played really well against a very big Morrisons pack and secured a lot of ball which gave our backs the chance to attack. The game was very finely balanced when a very late try and conversion secured the game for us in the dying seconds.
Rannoch 1st XV: 26-10 (W)
Having suffered more injuries in the very physical match against Morrisons, it was with

some trepidation that we made the journey north to Rannoch. Again we were up against a big heavy pack, but we managed to hold our own and the forwards provided the backs with quality ball to attack. Several more injuries, some of which looked serious, allowed the opposition to come back into the match. However, a great forward effort and our superiority in the backs won through in the end. This was an excellent effort.
Strathallan 1st XV : 7 -12 (L)
We managed to get some of our walking wounded fit for this cup match against Strathallan, a side that are never easy to beat. The pace at which they played took us by surprise at first, but we soon began to get into the match. A very courageous performance by our makeshift pack gave our backs the opportunity to take the game to Strathallan. It quickly became obvious that the only difference between the two sides was the ability to finish moves with a score. Having only been in our half once in the second half, Strathallan scored the vital winner.
