1st XV
This season for the 1st XV will no doubt be remembered by those who played an active role in it, especially by myself since it was the first season I have had the privilege to Captain a School Rugby team.
We came back from the summer holidays still very much under the shadow of the previous season's 1st XV and with a team consisting of three ex-1st XV, 4 ex-2nd XV, 2 ex-3rd Year XV and 6 "NRWs" (boys who haven't played Rugby for the School). With that in mind, we achieved a good level of Rugby Football.
With the introduction of the multi-gym in late January, bodies began to fill out the rugby jerseys, and soon the fights were not for the smallest jerseys but for the largest ones; the team got physically stronger and soon we began to hurt the opposition, fairly, with hard open rugger, our greatest moment coming against an unbeaten Wallace High School XV when we won 4-0.
The team this year had an average age of 16 years, the youngest player being 15 year old Patrick McGrath, our loose head prop, who stood ground against many an 18 year old; along with Stuart MacKenzie and myself
