river crossing on the Allan Water. This has been a happy co-operative little section and quite a number of them will be NCO's next Term.
Field Day was on 12th and 13th October, 1973. The reason for two days and one night is that part of the Proficiency Certificate is self-reliance test of camping out for a night, making meals and carrying gear for 16 miles. This is normally done at Annual Camp, but since this camp is selective in that only cadets capable of standing up to a rigorous week are allowed to attend, so the remainder, a much smaller group under very strict supervision, use Field Day for this test. The rest of the Army Section spent 13th October 1973 moving across country from Cultybraggan to Callander.
Annual Inspection. This event happened on 24th October, 1973, and the Inspecting Officer was Air Vice-Marshall C. V. Winn, CBE, DSO, DFC, the Air Officer Commanding Scotland and Northern Ireland. We did increase the number of places this year to 26 cadets, which was a bit too much and next year we will reduce the number to 24, which we can cope with.
The weather was superb. The sun was warm during the day, and at night the temperature dropped well below freezing and, this kept the snow from melting away too fast.
Our group was mixed with cadets attending for
