Other animals take the earth to roam, The haunted hoot of Owls sends shivers down your spine, Its eyes like burning embers in a fire, Bats spin and flutter around your head. Slick, Sly cats paw the doors of houses, Their emerald eyes flash and spark, Rats scurry across cellar floors, Only yellow teeth showing. Moon rays of gleaming thread, Shine on ripples of waves, While herrings glisten like silver coins in the ocean depths, Rigging shows and then is dark again, Shingle on the beaches looks like nuggets of gold, A late Seagull is like a fyling sheet. The moon floats on thread of Universe, The two unbeaten shades show their victory, This is a beacon of light, That surely cannot be spoiled.

SAN FRANCISCO, 1906
The jingling bottles and rising sun The city skyline all in one, The dizzy buildings and snakelike streets, Living to dying all in one. The fuming waters, the dancing flames, The burning city all in one. The rattling hoofs the rolling wheels, The blood read jackets all in one. The three hilled city is waiting again, All in one.
Ross Mackenzie, P7A
THE LAKE
Tall brown giants of Oak, Beach, Elm and Sycamore, With their broad green fingers, Surround the lake Reflecting in the clear rippling water, The yellow buttercups and golden daffodils Which give colour to this wonderful picture. All my affection I give to this fabulously beautiful Reflection. Crying gulls dive into the lake for fish, So big and tasty that even my mouth waters. The silent depths, Let otf a whisper, As the bird cuts through the water. Up it comes again, Splashing with its prey. Sadness makes my heart grieve, At death amongst such splendour.

THE CRUEL AGE
The sightless man sits on the doorstep, Trying to sell his wares. Old newspaper and broken toys; No one seems to care. "Spare a copper ?" "Spare a copper!" "Buy . . . Please?" But while passers-by look the other way, He looks for a man from Samaria.

RACE OF DESTRUCTION
A hawk is a bird, which soars in the air, A cow is an animal which grazes in the pastures. A pike is a fish which glides through the water. A crocodile is a reptile that lies in a swamp, A human is a mammal who brings pain and disaster.

MY DREAM
As I lay on my side relaxing, The sun beaming on my shoulders, And gleaming in my eyes. Suddenly I felt astonished. Looking in surprise, The sun had disappeared Behind dark clouds sailing in the sky. No birds to be seen at all. It was a dream, Just a dream, dream, dream.

IS HE?
Is he a rogue, or simply a tramp? Or just an old man, that's always got cramp? Is he a man who's always on booze? Or just an old man having a snooze ? Is he a man that is quite crazy ? Or just an old man that is too lazy? If you see him, are you likely to gloat? Or will you just feel a lump in your throat?

WAVELL STEEPLE CHASE
This year a steeple chase replaced the usual form of cross-country competition. Runners were divided into major and minor relays, and had to negotiate a shorter, but more difficult course, including Wavell Wood, Scouring Burn, various slopes and fixed hurdles. Ground and weather was very wet, but no one was deterred, least of all Lynedoch who were first overall, closely followed by Moore and then Abercromby.
