FOOTBALL

Capt. J. Gullen Colours: 1. Collie, J. Gallon.

Football is a sport which is always played with
great enthusiasm by the Wavell Boys. Away matches are eagerly looked forward to and there is much competition to get into the first eleven team and wear the school strip.
Although at first rather unco-ordinated the team
has developed confidence during the year and is now playing much more as a team and less as individuals bent on achieving glory by scoring the maximum number of goals.

WAVELL RUGBY 1973-74

This year's results were as follows: Hurst Grange 42—Wavell 0.
Although still beaten, we conceded 20 points less than last year (62-0) and in an 'away' game.

    On the inter-dormitory scene:
    Moore          16—Lynedoch     0
    Lynedoch       0—Abercromby 8
    Abercromby 12—Moore     16

Thus, Moore emerged as this year's champions
after a 'ding-dong' battle with Abercromby by the holders. Captain of Wavell and Moore was I. Collie.
Next session it is intended that the emphasis will be on 'Mini-Rugby,' a new 9-a-side version, specially developed in recant years as a way of introducing the game to younger players. Regular 15-a-side contests will also be arranged as the boys improve in the basic skills.        H.B., May 1974
