RUGBY The second half of the season was practically wiped out by the snow which in a most annoying way was sufficient enough to stop rugby but did not stay deep enough for continuous sledging or ski-ing.
Again, the majority of our games were cancelled because of bad weather. We managed to fit a game in against Glenalmond in early February. It was played away from home and we had a comfortable win of 14-3, the majority of our points being scored by Brian Murton's penalty kicking. Later, in fact the last game of the season, Alloa beat us away from home, mainly due to a slack defence and the usual end of term apathy. Our best and hardest game was against the Old Boys who produced one of the strongest teams we've seen for a long time. There was the usual outbreak of cramp from both sides, the Old Boys', probably due to lack of exercise, suffering most. However their heavy scrum eventually proved too much for us and they scored twice in the last four minutes. The final score was 21 -3 for the Old Boys. This term we entered the Stirling Seven-a-Side Competition and met Alloa in the semi-final. We were beaten 21 -3 by a faster and more experienced side.
Regular 1 st XV players were: Backs: C. McHardy, A. Grey, I. Cruikshank, J. Robertson, T. Goldie, B. Murton, I. Burgess, M. Wood, C. G. Robinson. Forwards: D. Wrenn, A. Robertson, J. Barnes, ,(. Murdoch, A. Jeffrey, S. Bruce, J. Wrenn, J. Campbell, J. Brown.
The 2nd XV lost 23-0 to Queen Anne School, Dunfermline.
The 3rd XV had a good end to the season with wins over Glenalmond and Alloa. This team has had a particularly good season playing hard, attractive rugby and combining well as a team.
The 4th XV lost to Queen Anne School.
The 5th XV lost to Alloa and the 6th XV lost to Queen Anne and Alloa.
An Inter-House rugby seven-a-side tournament was held on 11th December. Cunningham 1st year lost to Trenchard 6-0; Cunningham 2nd year and 3rd year beat Trenchard 19-9 and 31 -3 respectively.
