In the minor competition, the Lynedoch team won 3 trophy points, Abercromby 2 and Moore 1. The trophy was therefore won by Abercromby with 7 points and Moore, though tying in points with Lyndoch, was placed second, because of its better success in the major matches.
Athletics
The inter-dormitory competition was one of the closest in memory. At the end of the afternoon session, Moore led Abercromby by 15 points to 14, with Lynedoch a further 7 points behind and considered by most to be out of the running. After the sprints and the cricket-ball throwing, the gap had closed, and Abercromby were now 22 points, Moore 22 points, and Lynedoch 21. The result depended on the relays. Moore won the minor relay, as a result of a fine run by K. Ross, and Lynedoch were second. I. Burgess running the third leg in the major relay moved from last to first place and gave Lynedoch a lead of three yards. In the last leg N. Houston managed to hold off B. Murton (A) and A. Jeffrey (M), to win the relay and the Dormitory competition by inches. In the 880 yards major A. Martin ran a lonely race to take 1.8 secs. off the previous record. B. Webb (M) was within l/5th second of the 440 yards (minor) record and R. Murdoch (M) within inches of the cricket-ball (major) record. Murdoch also just failed to equal the high jump record.
PRIMARY FOOTBALL
Both Wavell teams have had limited success in the W. Perthshire Primary League this season. They have certainly enjoyed their football to the utmost, which is the real object of the exercise. The "A" team should, in fact, have won the League Shield this time but inexplicably lost at home to St. Ninians after comfortably holding a two-goal lead for most of the game. Some of the blame for this result, however, must be laid at the door of the selectors ! In the return game at Gartmore, St. Ninians held us to a draw and thereby won the shield for the third time since its inception. For the record, we have won it twice, Doune and Dunblane once each. We must get full marks for trying—we have been runners-up five times ! Final positions are difficult to work out this year because results from other schools have been some- what irregularly notified but it is certain that the first four places read : St. Ninians "A", Q.V.S. "A", Thornhill, Doune.

The "B" team has suffered from its usual limitations in skill but not in hard work and enthusiasm. It is inevitably rather weak in teamwork because so many of its players have to stand-in in the "A" team on so many occasions and rarely do they play the same team for two matches running. The "A" team is, of course, a better team than the "B" team as fas as talent and teamwork are concerned, but on many occasions the latter have shown what spirit and determination can do. Just what was needed, in fact, by the "A" team against St. Ninians last October.

Inter-School Athletics Primary
Wavell House athletes had a further incentive to do well in the School Sports this year—a place in the team to represent the House in a match against St. Ninian's School, Gartmore. St. Ninian's had earlier pipped us for the West Perthshire Primary Schools Football championship and our team were determined to do well. This we did by taking first place in twelve of the thirteen events. In the one event which they won, S. Marshall of St. Ninians' beat the major cricket ball record with a throw of 168 ft. 6 ins. Our long jump specialists were disappointed, since our visitors were unable to field competitors in this event. A new event for our boys was the Shot Put for which we entered two boys in each class. R. C. Murdoch (Major) and W. McMillan (Minor) took first places in this event and their distances will now stand as records.
