inter-house championship being decided by the combined results of the two leagues. After the matches had all been played, Cunningham and Trenchard tied for first place. The tie is to be resolved by a match between these two houses, of combined 1st and 2nd year teams, at least five from each year. The league system has succeeded in keeping up interest, but perhaps not benefited the standard of cricket as much as a series of matches against other schools, with the best cricketers getting more attention.
In the first year there is much more cricket potential than is suggested by the team record, more than we have had for a number of years. A. Crawford, who is well known as a mine of sporting information, was an efficient scorer for the team.
ATHLETIC SPORTS
The School sports were held on 2nd July in the afternoon and evening. There were no outstanding performances at the top, but one or two records were made by younger boys. E. Gillespie, who set up a new mile record last year, was away at the Outward Bound School. The best feature was that the competition between Houses and Dormitories was so close. In the Senior House Competition Cunningham were leading Haig by 2 points when the Relays began. The competition in the relay races literally could not have been closer, for all three Houses finished with equal relay points, and all are therefore are joint winners of the Relay Cup. So Cunningham won the competition by 2 points.
