1st Year XV

The 1st year boys had only one match in the Easter term, losing 6-9 against New Park. A 1st year B XV had a match against Alva, which they won 6-3. The record for the year of the 1st year XV was :—Played 3, Won 1, Lost 2. For 41, against 22. No new players were introduced, and the names are the same as shown in the Christmas report.

Junior Rugby Prospects

For 1965-66 we have two new sets of fixtures, with Alva and Tillicoultry. They have recently started Rugby, and have asked for fixtures with B XV's from our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years. This means that many more boys, who play enthusiastically in practice, but do not get into the top team of their section, will now have a chance of representing the School at least once or twice in a season.

Inter-School Seven-a-Sides

School teams took part in the inter-school "sevens" at Perth and in the tournament organised by Stirling County R.F.C. Each time we were beaten in the first round, but not by great margins. At Perth the team was J. Allan, R. Newman, D. Robertson, N. McConnell, E. Gillespie, A. Kay, N. Donaldson. At Stirling E. Bonar replaced J. Allan. Bonar is a third-year boy and not very big, but he showed up very well among much bigger boys, both at Stirling and in the inter-house "sevens."

Inter-House Seven-a-Sides

Haig won the senior section (3rd year secondary and upwards). The junior section (first and second years), was won by Cunningham. Over the whole competition the placings were—1 Haig, 2 (equal) Cunningham and Trenchard.

Place-Kicking Competition

In the place-kicking competition, instituted by the former Commandant, Brigadier Finlaison, the winners were as follows :—

Senior section—1 D. Robertson, 2 R. Newman, 3 J. Dempsey.

Junior section—1 I. Craig, 2 J. Macdonald, 3 D. MacLean.

CRICKET
1st XI

The 1st XI has been weakened by the absence by the absence of the captain, D. Robertson, because of illness, and the departure after three matches of S. Robertson, from whom some quick-scoring innings were expected. Before he left he achieved the feat of hitting a six over the   pipe-room.   In Robertson's absence D.
Marshall acted as captain, and is to be con-
gratulated   on   his management of a weaker 1st XI than we normally have.  Cricket colours were awarded to D. Marshall, J. Allan and I. Fraser.  We must mention the performance of Fraser. He scored 94 runs for an average of 23.5 in the first five matches, and took 20 wickets for 69 runs, an average of 3.45. In comparing his batting and bowling figures it has to be remembered that fine-sounding bits of bowling are recorded in school cricket. They reflect the quality of th e batting rather than that of the bowling. Sides are usually out for under 50. So his batting figures are probably more commendable than his bowling. J. Allan kept wicket well throughout the season.

As will be seen, the 1st and 2nd year boys have had hardly any fixtures this summer. In order to keep some competitive interest throughout the term and give most young cricketers a chance of being in a team, the system of leagues was re-started. In both 1st and 2nd years, each house team played each other twice, the points for the junior House cricket in the
