RUGBY FOOTBALL 1st XV
Easter Term Results— v. Grangemouth—Lost 6-11 v. Rannoch—Won 11-6 v. Old Boys—Lost 6-11 v. Alloa Academy—Won 13-11 Over the season : Played 15, Won 5, Lost 9, Drawn 1, Points for 110, Points against 211. It has not been a very successful season for the School XV, but the team did improve in the Easter term.
Those who played for the 1st XV during the season are—J. Allan, D. Nealon, A. Broughton, D. Robertson (captain), R. Newman, S. Robertson, N. McConnell, J. Sharp, A. Kay, R. Irvine, I. Smith, N. Donaldson, M. Owens, E. Gillespie, I. Fraser, D. Marshall, J. Plynn, A. Paulds, A. Morrice, J. Welsh.
2nd XV
Again this has hardly existed as a team. The combined numbers of boys above the third year stage are just about enough to produce two teams, bringing in almost anyone available. Thus it is not surprising that in its only two fixtures the 2nd XV scored no points at all and lost 94.
3rd Year XV
This team had several fixtures for the Easter term, but weather let only three be played : against Rannoch, Alloa, and Grangemouth. All were won. The modification of using seven forwards and an extra rover among the backs continued to be successful.
Players—J. Dempsey, A. Coid, J. Wood, K. Boyne, J. W. Corrigan, G. McManus, T. Bonar, E. Bonar, A. Smith, C. Lannen, D. Jagger, R. Hewitt, D. Fingland, J. Willmott, J. Campbell (captain), D. Maclnnes, G. Cunningham, R. McDougall. Played 9, Won 6, Lost 3. For 105, Against 77.
2nd Year XV
After losing 0-37 in its early season match with Morrison's Academy, the 2nd year team was not beaten again till the last game of the season, when it lost 0-3 in a scrappy and rather rough game at Alloa. It was in peak form in the win at Rannoch (14-0), where we copied Captain Petrie's idea of using only seven forwards. Three classic tries were scored there in quick handling movements. The policy at the second-year stage is not to choose and train a regular team, but to spread match experience over as many as we can
