SHOOTING 1964-65
Small bore shooting has continued this year in the Hobbies and Trades periods. The range itself has been improved both in appearance and in warmth by the erection of a partition at the firing point. It would be pleasant to report that this has resulted in an improvement in the standard of shooting but this, regrettably, is not so. Shooting is an engrossing but time-consuming hobby and to reach even a moderately proficient standard involves hours of regular practice which, in a school week as full as ours, is not easy to come by.
We had a very interesting talk by Mr Tom Walker of Kinross, the Scottish representative of the N.S.R.A. and a champion shot himself. He gave us many helpful hints and, above all, emphasized the right mental approach to the sport which is essential if progress is to be made beyond the novice standard.
The competitions, this year, held in the summer term, provided the competitors at least with a number of hours of interesting practice. In the Junior events, run by the R.S.M., D. MacLean (Haig) and G. Johnstone (Cunningham) were the Best Shots in the 1st and 2nd years respectively. In the Senior House and Individual Championship, the results of which are shown below, there was only a slightly lower general standard than last year but there was a much greater range of scores between teams and individuals—due mainly to competition nerves. The Trenchard team is to be congratulated on winning for the second year running, and their Captain, A. Morrice, shot two good cards to win the Best Shot award.

BOXING This year the system of inter-house boxing in the Senior Houses has been changed. Instead of holding heats, each House chose a boxing team to meet the other two senior houses. Wavell House continued with the old system of a single competition between all three dormitories.
