splashed about like ducks, good football being out of the question, and Alloa only managed to "fly-hack" harder or more often than us'. That match was the kind oif maul which "Ikey" Green horn or Brian William'son would have revelled in.
Last term. went by without a defeat, ending with an exhilarating game against Dunfermline High School 3rd XV. After R. McKenzie left us in December E. Bruce went to scrum half, and his efforts to sling the ball out quickly from the scrum gave the backs proper scope to move in.
The general standard of play has been fair, and impro'vedi considerably towards March. Place kicking at goal was weak at times, but Scott kicked a hefty goal against Kelvinside from near the ten-yard line, and Leigh has kicked well occasionally. Tackling, especially mid-field amongst the backs, has been fairly tight, but we sometimes tended to be caught out of position by the overhead punt. Our attack has been good on a. dry ground, but bad handling with. a greasy ball has let us down often. G. Ferrier's sporadic bursts of acceleration and weaving runs often pierced the opposing line, while I. Scott's "bull-dozing" tactics and lusty if sometimes over-vigorous hand-off were at times successful.
The forwards held their own, with big Jack Fairbairn's mop' bobbing about in the thick of the struggle. There were moments when the heartening Q.V. footrush appeared, with all forwards muttering furiously as they hacked the ball the length of the pitch. In the set scrums there was a tendency for the ball to stick in the back row, resulting in the scrum half being caught in possession and clouted by opposing wing-forwards. The team. I thmk, compares favourably with previous XV's of note, and we are grateful to Captain. Ashworth for '"shoving" us along. R. ANDERSON (Capt.)
2nd XV — Captain,, G. Welsh. Played; 5 games, won 5 games. A very good result considering: that this XV throughout the season kept accepting 1st team rejects and lost by Is-t team promotions. They did not seem to have much opportunity to settle but the team spirit of the regulars was so high that this difficulty was soon overcome and the new members quickly adapted themselves to their style! of play. The results show that this was a success.
3rd XV (under 144 years) — Captain, J. Wilkie. Played 8, won 7, lost 1. The match record is very good, and the standard of play both in attack ("points for" 236) and in defence ("points against" 44) has been particularly pleasing. Keen, hard rugby which is a joy to watch and good behaviour on the field has made this XV our outstanding team this year. They had an undefeated season right up to the last game When Kelvinside Academy Under 14 team defeated them by 15 points to 10.
4th XV (2nd year "A" team) — Captain, H. Miller. Played 7, won 7. Rugby in the school is fast becoming a team game and thus individual players are not mentioned. The exception in this XV is the captain, H. Miller, who', by his leadership and unselfish play, inspired this team to play hard attacking rugby, and in defence he was always ready to cover up.

5th XV (2nd year "B" team) — Played 2, won 1, drew 1. This is a new XV which shaped well in the two games they played. This team is made up of the reserves for the 4th XV. The 4bh XV realise that with so many reserves, all up to standard, they must play well fco stay in the 4th, XV.
6th XV (1st year) — Captain, T. Miller. Played 7, won 6, lost 1. This being their first season of rugby they began, keen and enthusastic but lacking in skill. After ball handling practice on the square every night for four weeks, plus numerous scrumming and line-out practices in the gymnasium, they settled down w play rugby well and hard. As the season progressed so did their experience increase, and this was well summed up by the Scotus Games Master, who remarked, "We would have a first class 1st XV if they would only pack in the loose scrums like your junior XV." They have had a good season and we hope that next season, when they move up to become the 4th XV, that they will have an unbeaten record like this year's 4th XV.
INTER-HOUSE RUGBY
The House rugby was played at its usual pace— hard, fast and furious. Results:—

RUGBY PLACE KICKING COMPETITION
To encourage and improve the place and prop kicking the Commandant introduced this competition. It consisted, of 3 place kicks and 2 drcp kicks from various angles and distances. Results:— Senior — 1st, I. Scott; 2nd, E. Bruce; 3rd, B. Fitzpatrick; 4th E. Leigh. Junior—1st, L. McGavin; 2nd, R. G. Mclntosh; 3rd, H. Miller.
Cricket 1st XI
The outstanding event of the season so far has been Andersen's feat in taking all ten wickets in a match. On June 9th, against Stirling High School 2nd XI, he took 10 wickets for 17 runs. This is a rare event for any bowler, which Anderson may never perform again, and he is to be highly commended for his performance. To date, the 1st XI has played 5 matches, won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1. The batting, with the exception of a disastrous collapse against Alloa Academy, has been fairly steady. Good scores have come from Sim, Anderson, Scott and, in his own peculiar way, Fitzpatrick. The bowling has been shared largely by Scott Full details are on next page:—and Anderson.
