A REWARDING RUGBY SEASON

The season began at the same time as the 'flu epidemic. As a result the first three sets of games against Dollar Academy, Fetfces College and Perth Academy were cancelled. After New Year the snow arrived, and stayed long enough to necessitate four sets of games being cancelled. Only five matches were lost during the Whole of the rugby season. The 3rd' and 4th XV's have had a grand season and the "points for" column shows the attacking power of the two teams. Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers in the upper school, and boys leaving, these boys will be put up into the 1st
and 2nd XV's next season, and thus two good XV's have to be renovated and reconstructed. The ideal situation would be one in which the 3rd XV continued to play as an under 154 year team, and the 4th XV as an under 14 1/2 team. Then in two years' time we would have a 1st XV Which could meet any school 1st XV on an equal footing and have a good season.

The above table indicates that this has been a most successful season and most rewarding for the boys who played and the masters who coached them.

1st XV

The school had quite a good season, winning all but three matches out of ten played. September saw us off to a good start with a convincing win over Morrison's 2nd XV. The team was then chopped about however and different combinations both in pack and threes quarters were tried. Naturally, pilay became a little erratic at times, and there was a tendency for the ball to stick in attack. As the season wore on the team settled down, and November gave us our highest score of the season, 55-3 against Dollar Academy 3rd XV. Yet, in the match after, we went down against Alloa Academy. I cannot recall a single dry game in the last five seasons against the Alloa boys. We
