Cricket

The first XI have had a good season so far,
having won four matches and lost one. Several matches have been cancelled owing to weather. The general standard of cricket has been reasonably good, but a more aggressive attitude in batting is needed. The fielding has reached a good standard.  Two  individual performances are noteworthy.  P.Gibson   has played two outstanding innings of 36 not out and 40, and Scobie has taken 22 wickets for 68 runs, including a hat-trick,  and  two spells of 7 wickets for five runs and 5 wickets for seven runs.

What I Want To Be

When I was about seven years old I was always changing my mind about what I was going to be in manhood, but I have made up my mind.
I am going to be a piper in the King's Own Scottish Borderers, as I will soon be in the School Pipe Band. I will stay in this regiment for a good number of years, then I will try to get a job at the School as Pipe-Major or as Company Sergeant-Major or maybe House Master.
When I join the K.O.S.B. at first I wont have to learn much drill as I learn a considerable lot here. Then when I join the "pipes" I may have to learn a different way, as no pipe-major teaches the same way. In the regiment I will get two hours of classwork where I learn all about the regiment and the officers.
My friend and I are leaving school at the same time and we are both going to the K.O.S.B. Our future regiment has had 15 V.C.'s, and like all regiments, has a Regimental Colour and a King's Colour. The dress for the K.O.S.B. is khaki blouse and tartan trews. I hope to be stationed at Berwick-on-Tweed so I will be near the sea. I love the water.

T. MILLAR (Prim. 6).
